Aesthetics Innovations: OLED-technology in design

Like it or not, the age of high information technology is integrated into almost all areas of our life, to make it not only more comfortable, but also more aesthetically pleasing. Recently, my attention was drawn to the use of OLED-technology in residential and commercial design spaces. For our country, however, as to the world, it is a relatively new development, costly and somewhat revolutionary. The principle of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is based on the use of organic light-emitting diodes. Passing through them, the electrical impulses give more saturated and bright light. Consider the possibilities of OLED-screens and monitors and then add to this the extensive colour range and you can start to see their potential.

Several specialist advanced producers have already started to use this technology in the manufacture of lighting devices and achieved great results. In this regard, I want to highlight the French brand Blackbody, which has an opportunity to move major players of the lighting business from the top of Mount Olympus, and the LG company, who released a line of OLED-lamps.

With regard to the French company, floor, ceiling and wall lights in collaboration with designer Thierry Gaugain, can meet the needs of the most demanding client, as well as realizing the most daring designer’s ideas.

The second company has developed flexible light OLED-panels thanks to the large chemical plant LG Chemical. A whole range of table lamps and ceiling lighting modules have now appeared. These “smart” devices can be controlled remotely through LG lighting control specific applications.

The Transparent Connection technology, through which light panels can be integrated into glass was presented at last year’s exhibition in Milan. It has been a godsend for many interior design solutions. However, perhaps, LG’s Colour Tunable lamp is the most spectacular Korean artifact. Through a similar application the owner can change its color and the emitted colour temperature, creating unique atmosphere in the office or at home.

It is worth mentioning that OLED- lamps do not produce shadows and highlights, in contrast to conventional incandescent lamps, they emit 100% safety light and allow light to reproduce almost any shape. What's more, this technology can be considered eco-friendly and is used in the manufacture of innovative medical technology and equipment.
